Laser Facials

When you think of a facial, you probably think of an hour-long pampering session that cleans and clarifies the pores and nourishes the skin. While traditional facials are great and a staple step of a well-thought-out skincare routine, laser facials, which are entirely different, are just as good.

Laser facials go one step further and use laser light energy to tackle multiple skin-related issues that a more conventional facial usually can't fix.

Non-surgical skin-improving treatments remain the preferred solution for getting better skin. So much more than your average skin treatment, light- and laser-based solutions rely on effective energy and innovative technologies to tackle the most common age-related skin concerns. These non-invasive treatments also work for all skin tones and types and are safe to use year-round. Since there are various laser treatments available, it’s essential to make sure the one you choose is the right fit for you.

What are laser facials?

Laser facials are quicker laser procedures that improve the skin and its tone and stimulate collagen production. Lasers fall into one of two categories: ablative, meaning they remove the uppermost layer of skin, or non-ablative, which leaves the skin intact. The lasers used for laser facials are non-ablative and do not damage or compromise the epidermis. Instead, they bypass this layer of the skin and work directly on the skin that’s underneath. Non-ablative lasers used for a laser facial are effective and don’t come with downtime or recovery like more aggressive lasers.

Modern-day laser facials work for various issues by rejuvenating the skin and penetrating deep throughout to provide results without compromising the skin surface. Relying on light or laser energy, these treatments can target damaged skin cells and pigment-producing cells while keeping other healthy skin cells perfectly intact and unaffected by the treatment. As a result, the skin can rebound quickly without any of the commonly seen effects of lasers.

Laser Genesis and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) are two of the more typically used laser facials. Both are effective, yet they are different.

Laser Genesis is a non-invasive and safe-for-all-skin-type treatment that harnesses the power of a single-wavelength laser. It’s a gentle treatment that helps improve the signs of aging and reduce the symptoms associated with rosacea, acne, scarring, wrinkles, roughness, and large pores. By flooding the skin laser light to deliver energy to the skin cells, they convert into heat. Then, the heat safely stimulates collagen production to firm the skin, making it look healthier and more youthful.

IPL employs multi-wavelength light instead of laser energy to break up pigment and discoloration in the skin. It’s also effective for treating redness in the skin, minimal signs of sun damage, visible veins, inflammation, redness, and brown spots. In addition, IPL is a quick, easy and painless way to improve the skin’s texture and tone while minimizing the common signs of early aging.

How do laser facials work?

Laser facials all work towards the same goal of improving the skin, and all have similar functionalities, but their nuances are what sets them apart. These super popular, quick, and easy treatments can transform the skin in a few sessions.

Lasers work by delivering a beam of light or energy to the skin. The different wavelengths determine how deep the laser can work under the skin and what it will target. Most lasers target a chromophore molecule, which absorbs the light and converts it into heat. Once this conversion occurs, the heat can go to work to undo the damaged skin, reducing redness or lightening discoloration and hyperpigmentation.

It’s imperative to wear sunscreen daily, especially since laser facials can make the skin more sensitive to the sun. Plus, you don’t want to undo all the work you just put in.

Who are laser facials for?

Laser facials benefit many skin tones and types, especially those with hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone and texture, and dull, do-nothing skin. They also reduce acne and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. If you have any of the following skin concerns or conditions, a laser facial may be right for you:

What are the benefits of laser facials?

The benefits of laser facials run the gamut from an overall skin refresh to improving the tone and texture. More specially, laser facials can:

While a laser facial works exceptionally well for the face, it can also be used to treat the neck and chest.

What does a laser facial feel like?

Laser facials are generally well tolerated but can be uncomfortable. Topical numbing cream will help make the treatment less painful. Mostly, they feel similar to a rubber band snapping on the skin. You may also feel some warmth. The good part: the treatment is fast, and any discomfort will subside as soon as the laser is done.

How much does a laser facial treatment cost?

The cost of a laser facial varies from person to person and largely depends on the laser used and the areas treated. Therefore, we recommend a consultation for a detailed estimate to determine your treatment’s cost.

You’ll want to keep your skin well-hydrated in the days leading up to the treatment. It’s often recommended to stop using retinol and retinoids one week before the laser so that the skin is not sensitive. Also, avoid at-home products that contain glycolic acid or exfoliating acids, which can irritate the skin.

Afterward, you’ll want to stick with a simple, bland skincare routine and use sunscreen daily. Also, avoid retinoids or glycolic acid for two days.

Although laser facials are quick and painless, most patients need a series of treatments to reap the benefits. On average, three or more sessions are recommended to reach the maximum results. A consultation is recommended to determine how many sessions your skin needs to benefit.
